With over 8700 different chemicals used in industry; many of which are hazardous materials (HAZMAT), the Department of Transportation (DOT) estimates there are over 800,000 HAZMAT shipments every day. To aid in the safe delivery of HAZMAT shipments, HAZMAT required to complete the 49 CFR Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) course every three years

Introduction

Anyone involved in handling, shipping, and/or transporting hazardous materials must receive training specific to their job function and the responsibilities that come with it. They must also undergo general awareness training to understand the transportation process as a whole, as well as security awareness training that prepares them to recognize potential threats to the safety of the transportation system. Any hazmat employee whose job involves driving a commercial vehicle transporting hazardous materials must receive additional 49 CFR training to avoid incidents. Drivers must also be able to identify mistakes in a shipment that may be subject to legal penalties and which in the end could affect the driver’s driving record.

This online 49 CFR training course provides required initial or recurrent 49 CFR training to participants involved with handling, shipping, and/or transport of non-bulk, non-radioactive hazardous materials by ground.
